What is Macular Degeneration?
Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of vision loss in people aged 55 and older. AMD currently affects over 11 million people in the USA alone and occurs when the small central portion of the retina, known as the macula, deteriorates. This life altering disease leads to symptoms including blurriness, dark areas, distortion or total loss of central vision. it affects one’s ability to drive, read and recognize faces over time.
